Since the beginning of my professional career I have been working in the Laboratory for Surveillance of Notifiable Diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis in their different aspects. I have been working in the public health laboratory and in national and international collaborative projects. I am the Technical Director of the Laboratory of Meningitis, Pneumonia and Pneumococcal Infections at the Bacteriology Center of the Instituto Adolfo Lutz (IAL). This institution is responsible for the investigation of diseases caused by these bacteria in the State of São Paulo and nationally by the Ministry of Health. Due to its experience in this area, IAL is the Brazilian Ministry of Health’s National Reference Laboratory for Pneumococcal Infections. In addition, the IAL was the PAHO / WHO Sub-Regional Reference Laboratory for Laboratory Surveillance of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria meningitidis (SIREVA II), in partnership with 20 Latin American countries in the External Quality Assessment program with the development of bacterial panels. I have contributed to several national and international publications with the aim of knowing the reality of the diseases and microbiological characteristics of bacteria.
